东门之墠[1]
东门之墠，
茹藘[2]在阪[3]。
其室则迩，
其人甚远。
东门之栗，
有践[4]家室。
岂不尔思？
子不我即[5]。
东门外面地平坦，
茜草长在山坡上。
她的房屋近咫尺，
她的人儿远天涯。
东门外面栗树下，
那有成排的村落。
难道我不想念你？
你却不与我亲近。
注释：
[1] （shàn）：平坦的场地。
[2] 茹藘：茜草。
[3] 阪：土坡。
[4] 践：房屋排列整齐。
[5] 即：靠近。
A Lover's Monologue[1]
At eastern gate on level ground
There are madder plants all around.
My lover's house is very near,
But far away he does appear.
‘Neath chestnut tree at eastern gate
Within my house in vain I wait.
How can I not think of my dear?
Why won't he come to see me here?
[1]A woman thought of her lover and complained that he did not come to her though his house was very near, at the eastern gate of the capital of Zheng.
