Tune: Plucking Laurel Branch
Rhyming with a Friend
Zhang Kejiu
I'd call the Beauty to go to the west with me.
How can I not delay on the winding long way
Along the careless mist-veiled stream, carefree?
The cuckoos cry amid green trees,
The blue sky streaked by wild geese,
The gulls are friendly with snow white.
Drunk, I lean on pear trees in blossoms bright,
But willow trigs cannot tie the boat with moonlight.
I try to go upstairs to gaze far, far away,
But find the Southern Rivershore with green overspread
And vernal grief fading in fallen red.
