采葛

彼采葛兮，

一日不见，

如三月兮。

彼采萧[1]兮，

一日不见，

如三秋[2]兮。

彼采艾兮，

一日不见，

如三岁兮。

那人正在采葛啊。

一天不见她，

好像过去三个月。

那人正在采青蒿啊。

一天不见她，

好像过去九个月。

那人正在采艾啊。

一天不见她，

好像过去了三年。

[1] 萧：青蒿。

[2] 秋：一个秋天三个月。三秋即九个月。

To gather vine goes she.

I miss her whom I do not see,

One day seems longer than months three.

To gather reed goed she.

I miss her whom I do not see,

One day seems long as seasons three.

To gather herbs goes she.

I miss her whom I do not see,

One day seems longer than years three.

[1]It has become proverbial that a short absence from the lover seems to e long, and longer the more she is dwelt upon.
