The Rabbit Catcher[1]

Well set are rabbit nets;

On the pegs go the blows.

The warrior our lord gets

Protects him from the foes.

Well set are rabbit nets,

Placed where crossroads appear.

The warrior our lord gets

Will be his good compeer.

Well set are rabbit nets,

Amid the forest spread.

The warrior our lord gets

Serves him with heart and head.

[1]This was a song in praise of a rabbit catcher, fit to be a warrior and compeer of the lord. It set forth the influence of the lord as so powerful and beneficial that individuals of the lowest rank might be made fit to occupy the highest positions.
